Executive Team

PRESIDENT KEITH MONTOYA

Mr. Montoya worked for most of his professional life in some of the most prestigious and accomplished law firms, including Patton Boggs and Kamlet Reichert.  This first-hand experience provided many important lessons in running operations as well as managing a variety of challenging projects for high-profile clients.  His background and relationships with many of Denver's top lawyers and his experience at managing personnel and situations led him naturally into politics where he was the Deputy Campaign Manager and Finance Director for the Colorado Attorney General run of Ken Salazar.  It was following the successful campaign that Mr. Montoya decided to launch his own operation, D1 Solutions.

Mr. Montoya's business acumen and practical experience and expertise established a solid foundation for the new company and his capabilities and the success of the business was recognized in a number of ways.  In 2005, Mr. Montoya was named one of the "Top 40 under 40" by the Denver Business Journal.  In 2006, Governor Ritter appointed him to his Technology Transition Committee.  The following year, Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper named Mr. Montoya to the influential Denver County Judicial Nomination Commission.

In addition to his key appointments, Mr. Montoya is committed to his community and serves on the Board of Directors of the Denver Children's Museum and is the Chairperson of the Business Development Committee for the Denver Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

CEO JAMES CRANE

Mr. Crane is a licensed Colorado attorney with extensive experience in litigation, electronic discovery, prelitigation preparedness, corporate compliance, and complex litigation.  In his practice from 2002 to 2007, he defended corporate clients in a variety of high-profile matters including multi-jurisdictional class actions, mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property litigation, and internal corporate and government agency regulatory investigations.  His areas of emphasis and expertise include antitrust, telecommunications, construction, employment, trademark infringement, ERISA, insurance, and securities.  In his years of practice, the legal profession began to recognize the crucial importance of properly implementing technological tools to allow practitioners to create the most defensible climate and most effective compliance protocols.  Mr. Crane was among the earliest wave of attorneys to utilize online document repositories, enterprise data acquisitions, online review platforms and various technical means to sort, organize and better prepare data for discovery.

This experience and knowledge led him to become one of the leading consultants for corporate counsel to ensure compliance with Federal and state discovery rules, specifically those related to electronically stored information.  As a consultant, he has provided educational presentations to law firms and corporate legal departments regarding case law developments, the challenges associated with managing electronically stored information, and the integration of technology and processes to meet litigation needs.  He has written numerous articles examining issues related to serving corporate clients, ediscovery developments, efficient use of technology, and the proactive approach to litigation.  His work has been featured in The Docket, a publication of the International Association of Defense Counsel, Peer to Peer, a publication of the International Legal Technology Association and he has spoken at IQPC, Master's Conference, COALSP, NFPA, and other organization events.

Mr. Crane was appointed as CEO of D1 Solutions in May of 2009.  His legal background and experience in integrating technology into the legal and business compliance process was an excellent fit for D1 as a solutions company serving law firms, government agencies, and corporate clients that were increasingly dealing with the challenges of voluminous data, archived documents, and the need to reduce potential exposure related to non-compliance and litigation.  He obtained his Juris Doctor from the University of Alabama School of Law following a B.S. in International Relations and Political Science from the University of California at Santa Barbara.  He is licensed in Colorado and admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court of Colorado and the U.S. Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals.  He is an active member of the Class Actions & Derivative Suits and Corporate Counsel Committees of the American Bar Association and the Colorado Bar Association.
